Noise log for apartment living

Records only
when it goes THUD.

Before you go to sleep or head out, start measuring and set your phone down. Floor Noise Log keeps only the moments louder than your threshold and turns them into a log of when it happened and how loud it was.

1 a.m., woken by another thud. You want to tell the building manager, but you have nothing that shows when it happened or how loud it was. Recording all night means listening back to hours of audio. And while you are out, you have no way of knowing what went on.

Floor Noise Log throws away the quiet minutes and keeps only the ones with loud sounds. When you wake up or get home, you can see what time it happened, how many decibels, and how many times.

Set your phone down
and start measuring

See the current level in dB, a live graph and the frequency spectrum on one screen. Measuring continues with the screen off, and you can schedule it to stop when you wake up or get home.

Only sounds above the threshold
become events

Sounds above the threshold (50 dB by default, adjustable from 40 to 80 dB) are marked as events. One-minute files with no events are not saved, so storage lasts longer. Turn on record on event and recording starts 5 seconds before the sound.

AI tells you
what the sound was

Based on the recording and its frequency profile, AI describes the likely type of sound, such as heavy footsteps, a dropped object or a door closing. Equivalent level (Leq) and maximum level (Lmax) are shown too.

A scheduled stop ends the measurement at the time you set, while you sleep or are out. Power saving mode hides the graphs to save battery. Android only

Backup and restore

Back up all records, or only those in your log, as a ZIP file and restore them on a new phone. Android saves straight to Google Drive; on iPhone, save the file to the Files app.

Three steps

  1. Install and start measuring

Allow the microphone and notifications, then tap the play button in the middle. Place the phone on the floor or a desk where it can pick up the sound.

  2. Leave it on when you sleep or go out

Measuring continues with the screen off. On Android, exclude the app from battery optimization for long sessions. On iPhone, turn on Background Recording in Settings.

  3. Check when you wake up or get home

Only records with events are kept, sorted by date. Listen again, add notes and add them to your log.

Readings are for everyday reference. Phone microphones differ in sensitivity, so readings carry some error and do not replace an official measurement. Use mic calibration (−20 to +20 dB) in Settings to adjust for your device.
